30-Year Tower Veteran Retires
Scott C. Conyers Hangs Up His Harness
(Winter Park, FL, May 16, 2025): Scott C. Conyers, a 30-year veteran of Tower Systems, has decided it’s time to retire from a career and a profession he loves and hangs up his climbing harness for good.
Scott started his career over 30 years ago as a “tower hand” with Casey’s Tower Service in Orlando, FL, for $7/hour with guaranteed overtime, a good wage back then. In 1993, when Tower Systems acquired the company, Scott stayed on and worked from the top of the tower down to the ground to become Crew Supervisor and eventually Senior Project Manager. He is revered as a technical expert in all things towers.
Today, Scott is considered one of the few left from the “old school,” as he has seen firsthand how the industry has changed so much throughout his career. “It takes a lot of physical and mental stamina to do the job right and safely. My motto has always been, anything worth doing is worth doing it right. I will miss the road and stacking tower steel with gin poles. I will miss the work and the people. Seeing a tower top-out and knowing I had a hand in building telecommunication infrastructure across the United States and many foreign countries makes me proud that I’ve left my mark on this world.”
Eric S. Anderson, President of Tower Systems: “Scott, it has been a privilege to work with you over the years. Thank you for all you have done for TSI and me. Enjoy your retirement, you earned it!”
“I have learned so much from you over the years. You’ve been someone I could always rely on, and you will be missed. Thank you for helping me over the years”, said Lynnette Cotten, Director of Meteorological Services, Tower Systems.
When asked about his proudest accomplishments and who influenced him during his career, he quickly replied, “My sons, David and Daniel. They are my best works! I’m proud to have had great mentors who taught me throughout my career. The late Bill Carlson, an iconic figure in our industry, taught me so much; it’s immeasurable. I’m grateful to have worked for his daughter, Kari L. Carlson, who continues his business with the same fairness and tenacity as he did. Finally, Tim Brown, who retired after 41 years, trained me well, and we experienced so much together over the decades. He’s a good man and a good friend”.
“I hope I can transition into retirement without missing what I have done for most of my life. I plan to ride my Harley-Davidson Street from Florida to California and ride up the Pacific shoreline. I also want to travel leisurely across our beautiful country in my motorhome with my German Shepherd, Sadie. Moving slow will be something I will have to grow accustomed to”, he laughed.
In honor of Scott Conyers’ retirement, Kari L. Carlson, CEO of Tower Systems, had these final words: “Not many people get the opportunity to work with the likes of Bill Carlson, Tim Brown, and Scott Conyers. I feel incredibly blessed and grateful that I hit this trifecta and had such a group of amazing men teach and mentor me throughout my career. Scott, thanks for always sticking by me when things got hard and doing so just because I asked you to. Your loyalty, dedication, hard work, and sacrifices made for me, the Carlson family, and Tower Systems do not go unnoticed and are appreciated. You will always be a true friend of mine. I hope your retirement is full of good health, shrimping, scalloping, spending time with your granddaughters, and binge-watching Yellowstone! You are irreplaceable to me, loved, and will be missed very much, THANK YOU!”
